Ever since the pandemic, I have been having a lot of panic attacks and really bad anxiety. Sometimes I cannot sleep at night because of the negative thoughts in my head. I sometimes think I want to get a therapist or a counselor but then again, I am like it would mean that something is wrong with me and I am ashamed to say I have a therapist, so going to one really scares me. I am also black and all the racial injustice going on just makes my anxiety even worst. I think I may be suffering from depression at times, but I don’t like the stigma that comes with it. Being black already is baggage for me to carry on daily, so don’t want to add anything to my load. I have quotes that I recite in my mind when I feel my anxiety coming on strong, but I really need help with finding a therapist or counselor who can help me manage my emotions. Please help me. Thank you.
I am really sorry that you are struggling with anxiety. It’s no surprise that are your experiencing insomnia due everything going on. Situation depression and anxiety is a valid experience. A therapist is not a weakness, it shows strength. Also, you do NOT have to tell people you are reaching out for a therapist. It’s private and confidential. With that being said, you doctor can prescribe a medication that you can take only when you need it for that anxiety and it can help calm your heart. I just to reiterate, there is NO shame in needing someone to talk to. There is NO shame in having natural human emotions. There is NO shame in acknowledging that you are struggling to cope with current events. Have a mantra or quotes helps. Also try writing in a journal. When anxiety strikes you can also work out or do deep cleaning to help work out that antsy energy. Remove yourself from social media and the constant reminders. Don’t watch the news often. And finally know that your skin is beautiful, your soul is beautiful, your life is beautiful, your culture is beautiful and your MIND is beautiful. Your mind needs to be taken care of right now and that’s ok. Try some of these tools and ask for more help if you need it.
